Our Active School Committee

In October, children in 4th, 5th and 6th were given the opportunity of applying for the Active School committee. The children filled in an application form. There were lots of fantastic ideas to make the school more active on the application forms to the school’s delight. Each child’s name who filled in the application form was placed into a hat and 2 pupils were chosen from 6th, 5th and 4th. The committee will meet regularly to discuss, plan and implement activities. We aim to make sure that all the children in Ballinadee have more fun while getting more active.

Gymnastics

We are very lucky this year to welcome back Colm. The excitement and smiles on each child shows just how much they love Gymnastics. Each class has Colm on Friday and they can’t wait to see their gymnastic skills improve over the term. We are so fortunate to have such a fantastic parents association who cater for this.

GAA skills with Gavin

At Ballinadee we are very lucky to have Gavin come to the school every Wednesday to work on our hurling and football. It is great to have such a connection with Courcey Rovers GAA club on this. Each week children work hard on their throwing and catching skills through fun activities and games. Each class level will get classes with Gavin throughout the year. Remember gum shields and boots for football and hurley and helmet for hurling.

Fyffes Fitness Squad

Ballinadee NS are taking part in Fyffes hunt to find Ireland’s Fittest School. We are doing lots of exercises with David Gillick and Kelly Harrington online to work both our upper and lower bodies. The children are really enjoying these. We earn points for each exercise.

Partnerships

Our Active School notice board is located near the front of the school. It is used to share notices which inform the classes of all the active activities that are going on in school. We have a picture of our committee on the noticeboard.

Sporting Achievements

Our school acknowledges the physical activity, effort and success of our pupils both during and outside school hours. We have a section on our noticeboard.

Slogan

Well done to everyone who took part in the slogan competition. The committee had a very hard time trying to choose one. Congratulations to James Bouse in Senior Infants who came up with our Junior Slogan ‘ Don’t be snoozing, get up and get moving’. Congratulations to Ciarán O Callaghan who came up with the senior slogan “jump, skip, hop and play we’ll do 10,000 steps a day’. Super slogans so lets all get moving!!

What Club are you in Survey?

The active committee helped to create this survey and it is now displayed on the Active School Noticeboard. The children in our school are members of a wide variety of clubs. We hope that the results of this survey will encourage the children to try out even more physical activities outside of school.
